The ensemble to Kristen Wiig’s latest comedy, entitled Welcome to Me is starting to fill out. It was previously reported that Jennifer Jason Leigh (Margot at the Wedding, Greenberg), Tim Robbins (Mystic River) and Linda Cardellini (Brokeback Mountain, Mad Men) would co-star in the film about a woman named Alice (played by Wiig) who suffers from borderline personality disorder.
Alice wins the lottery, only to use the funds on a cable access talk show about herself, which begins to alienate those around her as Alice’s obsession with fame supersedes everything else. Reportedly in talks to join the ensemble are Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games, American Beauty), Joan Cusack (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Mars Needs Moms), James Marsden (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, 2 Guns) and Alan Tudyk (42, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.)
Welcome to Me is slated for release in 2014, to be directed by Shira Pevin (Fully Loaded) with a screenplay by Eliot Laurence. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (soon to re-team for the hotly anticipated sequel to their 2004 cult hit Anchorman this Christmas) are among the producers. Wiig, whose been fairly quiet since her sleeper 2011 comedy Bridesmaids became a phenomenon is set to enter a stage of near ubiquity in the next year or so with supporting roles in the upcoming Anchorman sequel, the remake of Danny Kaye’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty starring Ben Stiller, a starring role in the drama Hateship Loveship (set to debut at the Toronto Film Festival this September), as well as a reprisal of her vocal talents in next year’s sequel to the 2010 animated hit How to Train Your Dragon.
