According to The Hollywood Reporter, Well Go USA has acquired all the North America rights to the South Korean disaster film Emergency Declaration. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last summer, and features co-stars Song Kang-ho in his first role since Parasite, alongside Lee Byung-hun (Squid Game), and actress Jeon Do-yeon.
Directed by Han-Jae-rim, Emergency Declaration is scheduled for a theatrical release in U.S. and Canada in 2022 after its domestic release in Korea.
The film’s plot focuses on a commercial flight that faces an onboard virus outbreak, and passengers are forced to evacuate.
“I wrote this screenplay, completed casting and prepared to start shooting in a world in which COVID-19 did not yet exist, but disasters always seem to strike when we least expect them,” said Han. “As a whole, I think we are now accustomed to the fact that people can sometimes lose strength and become self-centered when faced with a crisis. Thankfully, the situation worldwide is slowly improving despite the turmoil, and I hope that this film can help provide a small measure of comfort and hope to audiences who are exhausted from dealing with the pandemic.”
Emergency Declaration is packed with a talented cast, which apart from those already mentioned, includes names like Kim Nam-gil, Yim-Si-wan, Kim So-jin, and Park Hae-joon.
