After the massive success of Knives Out, which was a revival of the murder mystery as well as the filmmaker’s reputation after the mixed reception of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson announced the wrap of his star studded sequel, currently titled Knives Out 2. Daniel Craig returns as the lovable, quirky lead detective Benoit Blanc, with a whole new ensemble cast of wacky characters to deal with.
The new ensemble includes Jessica Henwick, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., and Dave Bautista, with more big names to come.
Steve Yedlin returns as cinematographer, who has been Johnson’s DP since his stellar indie debut Brick, , regardless of how you feel about his other films (I didn’t care for The Last Jedi but it does looks stunning).
It’s clear that this franchise is Craig-led in Johnsons’s eyes, labeling the upcoming sequel as ‘the next Benoit Blanc mystery.’ Those who were attached to Ana de Armas’ Marta or Chris Evans’ Ransom will have to adapt to a new gang of characters.
Knives Out 2 is expected to release in 2022 on Netflix, with Knives Out 3 in development at the mega-streamer as well.
