Kevin J Anderson’s famous novels, Nether Station and Nether Vortex are coming to the big screen with new film adaptations by director Paul W.S. Anderson. Anderson who is a well known filmmaker who has worked on six Resident Evil films are bringing a new sci-fi horror story to life. Anderson’s novels follow the Cammie Skoura who is a brilliant, neurodivergent young scientist, who is abroad a deep-space expedition and uncovers a trail of ancient ruins and long dead alien civilizations leading toward a mind shattering discovery. It is said that she “anchors a story that fuses space exploration with the cosmic dread,” which is something Weird Tales has published since it was founded back in 1923. With these adaptations, W.S. Anderson brings a return to the horror genre that he had explored himself back in 1997 with the release of Event Horizon.
Author Anderson has stated that the title had an influence on the release of Nether Station and has eventually released Nether Vortex three years after on October 27. He has also stated that these had a high influence on his writing and that he couldn’t imagine a better director for this project than W.S. Anderson. Also, working on this project is screenwriter Jonathan Wakeham, who is known for Midas Man and To Catch a Killer, who will adapt both of the screenplays. Others working on this project alongside Wakeham are Jeremy Bolt, who will produce it alongside W.S. Anderson, Weird Tales President John Harlacher and Weird Tales VP of film Tony Eldridge.
The filmmaker has stated that he’s been a fan of Kevin’s work and was “thrilled” to read Nether Station and about being in talks about plans on expanded the universe he has been creating. This lovecraftian cosmic horror is said to “have all the ingredients for an unbelievably compelling and terrifying cinema experience.” W.S. Anderson is coming off of In the Lost Lands, while Kevin J. Anderson is coming off of past activity in film and TV with serving as co-producer on both Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two and HBO Max’s Dune: Prophecy. W.S. Anderson is repped by Ken Kamins of Key Creatives while Kevin Anderson is repped by Zero Gravity Management and Weintraub Tobin Chediak.
