Dark Sky Films Acquires SXSW Horror Thriller ‘American Dollhouse’ Ahead Of January Theatrical Bow

Dark Sky Films has secured exclusive domestic theatrical distribution rights to American Dollhouse, the psychological horror thriller written and directed by John Valley (The Pizzagate Massacre). The genre label plans to release the picture in U.S. theaters in January 2027 following its world premiere in the Midnighters section at South by Southwest earlier this year.

International sales agent Blue Finch Films also closed a key North American territory pact, selling Canadian distribution rights to Vortex Media. Blue Finch will continue shopping the feature to foreign distributors and platform partners at the American Film Market in Los Angeles next week.

The story centers on Sarah, a young woman who inherits her secluded childhood residence only to find herself systematically terrorized and stalked by an unhinged neighbor whose fixation rapidly escalates into gruesome violence. Valley described the project as an attempt to deconstruct sanitized cultural myths surrounding family and domestic safety through the visceral lens of an unforgiving, blood-soaked genre piece.

Hailley Lauren (My Stretch of Texas Ground) headlines the cast alongside Kelsey Pribilski (Man Finds Tape), Tinus Seaux, Danielle Evon Ploeger, and Richard C. Jones. Producing the indie production are David Axe, Samuel Butler, Shane Greb, and Roosevelt Film Lab’s Christian Sosa and Jon Wroblewski.

The distribution pact was negotiated directly between Dark Sky Films executive vice president Greg Newman and Blue Finch Films managing director Mike Chapman. The acquisition adds to the genre banner of MPI Media Group, which controls distribution for horror cornerstones including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as well as modern elevated horror titles such as Ti West’s The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers.
