In the early morning hours of September 1st, comedian Kevin Hart was in serious car accident in Calabasas, California. According to Deadline, Hart had not been driving and the driver, Jared Black, is confirmed by police to not have been under the influence of alcohol at the time the car veered off the road and rolled into an embankment. There was a third person in the vehicle identified as Rebecca Broxterman, but she didn’t sustain any serious injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
Hart and Black were both reported to have sustained serious back injuries with Black having been airlifted to the UCLA Medical Center. According to Hart’s wife, Eniko Hart, Hart is said to be doing “great” post-surgery. This comes to the relief of many of Hart’s co-stars wishing him a speedy recovery, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with whom Hart worked on 2016’s buddy comedy Central Intelligence and the revamped Jumanji films, the second one coming out later this year. On Instagram, Johnson posted this:
Hart will most likely remain at Northridge Hospital Medical Center as he recovers from surgery. Photos of the car post-accident can be seen on TMZ, who first reported on the accident.
