John Travolta’s ‘The Fanatic’ Bombs Hard, Surpassing Previous Critical Failures

It has been a bad week for John Travolta. His latest movie The Fanatic is in theaters right now and bombing so hard that it  only managed to earn $3,153 at the box office so far. This means that the movie is averaging about $60 per theater. With a performance like that, The Fanatic has the worst opening of all of Travolta’s movies.

And yes, The Fanatic has managed to fail harder than disasters like Gotti, which infamously trashed the reputation of its distributor MoviePass, as well as the Scientology science-fiction spectacular of suck that is Battlefield Earth!

The Fanatic, a thriller about an insane movie fan (Travolta) stalking his favorite celebrity, was released in only 52 theaters in the United States. The movie was directed by Fred Durst, who is actually the frontman of the rap rock band Limp Bizkit, and its plot was apparently inspired by an actual Limp Bizkit fan who stalked Durst in real life. And yes there are actual fans of Limp Bizkit- crazy right?

Travolta has had an…interesting career. The actor has starred in some very famous films including Pulp Fiction, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and even donned on drag to play the mother in HairsprayBut he’s also been in some pretty big duds too like the previously mentioned Gotti and Battlefield Earth. Who knows how a movie like The Fanatic will to affect Travolta’s career from this point forward?
