Two-time Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley is going to hunt down a serial killer. According to Deadline, Knightley will star in a new serial killer drama Boston Strangler, which will be produced by Ridley Scott and Margot Robbie. Matt Ruskin (Crown Heights) has written the story and is set to direct for 20th Century Studios.
Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh will produce with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap Entertainment.
Boston Strangler is the real story of Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), the first writer to link the killings and break the story of the Strangler, based on the historic Boston Strangler murders. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole defied early 1960s discrimination by reporting on the city’s most renowned serial murderer and worked relentlessly to keep women informed. Loretta followed the story at tremendous personal danger, uncovering corruption that called the real identity of the Boston Strangler into question.
Ruskin, a native of Boston, conducted a study on McLaughlin and Cole by tracing down their families and conducting genuine research from the early 1960s.
Knightley can be seen next in the drama/horror Silent Night which stars Lily-Rose Depp, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Matthew Goode.
Boston Strangler begins filming this December in Boston, where the historic atrocities occurred.
