Keanu Reeves next action film, John Wick, has its first trailer. Reeves plays the titular role of an ex-hitman coming out of retirement to settle a personal score. Willem Dafoe, Bridget Moynahan, and Adrienne Palicki round out the cast. Chad Stahelski will make his directorial debut after working for years as a stunt coordinator and fight choreographer for dozens of films since 1991 including Point Break and The Matrix.
With his life of crime behind him, John Wick lives a quiet life with his dog Daisy, a gift from his wife before she passed away. Wick’s car catches the attention of a local gang, and when the thugs try to steal the car they end up killing Daisy. Swearing revenge, Wick go up against the entire gang and some old friends along the way. Not the most original story perhaps, but as movie crimes go, killing a puppy is a good way to make the audience hate the villain.
Based on the plot teaser and the trailer, John Wick is unlikely to set the world on fire. Lionsgate certainly does not think so, the company released this first trailer barely a month before the film’s release on October 24. Still Stahelski’s experience in fight choreography bodes well for the action.
