Ridley Scott’s (The Martian) long-discussed sequel to the Alien prequel, Prometheus, has added newcomer to its cast. According to Deadline, Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs) has signed on to star in Alien: Covenant, formerly known as Alien: Paradise Lost.
Waterston will play Daniels (likely a last name), a higher-up crew member on the colony ship Covenant. The ship discovers a new planet they believe to be a near paradise. However they soon discover that the planet isn’t all it seems when they meet its sole inhabitant David (Michael Fassbender, Macbeth), a synthetic A.I. made by the Weyland-Yutani corporation.
After starring in a number of indie films, Waterston has made significant moves to the mainstream. After starring in 2014’s Inherent Vice, she was in the 2015 romantic comedy Sleeping with Other People and the biopic Steve Jobs. This will mark a reunion with Fassbender who starred opposite her in Steve Jobs.
Fassbender played David in Prometheus though he was literally torn apart in the film’s climax. Shaw (Noomi Rapace, The Drop) took him with her to discover the home-world of the Engineers whom they discovered created humanity. Rapace will also return for the sequel. Alien: Covenant is said to be the first of trilogy that will properly connect Prometheus to 1979’s Alien. The trilogy will be completed before Neill Blomkamp’s (Chappie) rumored Alien project is put off hold.
Alien: Covenant is set to release October 6, 2017. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
