According to The Wrap, current Academy Award nominee Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) is in talks to join the starry ensemble cast of Collateral Beauty.
The drama from Village Roadshow Pictures already has twice-Academy Award nominated Will Smith (Concussion), Academy Award winner Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold), twice-Academy Award nominated Keira Knightley (Everest), thrice-Academy Award nominated Edward Norton (Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)), Michael Peña (The Martian) and Naomie Harris (Spectre) on board.
Helmed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) from a screenplay by Allan Loeb (Rock of Ages), the story centers on a New York advertising executive (Smith) whose life falls apart after a terrible personal tragedy. His colleagues attempt to rescue him from his downward spiral in an unconventional way. Details surrounding the roles for the other cast members, including Winslet’s, are unknown at this time. Rachel McAdams (currently Oscar-nominated for Spotlight) had previously been in talks to join the cast, however those plans did not materialize.
Prior to her current Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination, Winslet was nominated seven times for the Academy Award, winning Best Actress for The Reader (2009). She played the main villain in the first two installments of the Divergent series, based on the Veronica Roth novels. Winslet will be seen next in John Hillcoat’s crime thriller Triple 9 which opens on February 26th.
Production on Collateral Beauty is expected to start this month in New York. The feature has received a release of December 16th when it will have to do battle with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
