>Karen Gillan has been cast alongside Henry Cavill in Amazon MGM’s remake of the 80s cult action film Highlander, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Released in 1986, the original version of the fantasy swashbuckler stars Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart, and Clancy Brown and follows Connor MacLeod, a medieval Scotsman who discovers he is part of a race of immortal warriors who duel each other to the death. With the help of another immortal, Ramirez, MacLeod battles his way throughout the ages until it is time for the final battle.
Now, the Guardians of the Galaxy star will join the cast of the remake as Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife, who he meets soon after learning about his immortality, alongside Cavill as MacLeod, Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, and Marisa Abela.
Gillan, who originally hails from Inverness, Scotland, humorously remarked about the casting on X/Twitter, saying,
Dialect coach can sit this one out…
The actress further shared her excitement about returning to her home country and getting to do so with her newborn daughter:
I am more likely to take a job if it films in Scotland…I’m always looking for reasons to come to Scotland…so she will be seeing it soon. I can take her to Eden Court Theatre – and I want to take her to the pantomime in Inverness – that’s my biggest dream.
The Highlander remake will be written by Michael Finch, directed by John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski, produced by Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, Louise Rosner, and Stahelski through his 87Eleven Entertainment, and is set to start shooting in September.
