Karen Gillan Describes ‘The Life of Chuck’ As A ‘Cathartic Experience’

Karen Gillan has given her first reaction to the upcoming movie she stars in, Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck. The film is an adaptation of the novella of the same name by renowned horror author Stephen King in his collection, If It Bleeds. The novella and film focus on the various phases a man, Charles ‘Chuck’ Krantz, undergoes while passing away from a brain tumor. Flanagan has previously adapted works from King, such as Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep. He is also currently working on an adaptation of King’s The Dark Tower series. Other than Gillan, the film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harvey Guillén, Mark Hammill, and Tom Hiddleston.

Talking to Collider, Gillan revealed that she had seen a “not-finished version” of the new film, describing a viewing experience chock full of intense emotions: “He was just the same Mike Flanagan, and brilliant and the movie is absolutely incredible. I saw a not-finished version of it, and literally didn’t stop crying for days. In a good way. It’s a cathartic experience. It’s someone dealing with the end of their life, and it’s told in a very imaginative way, and it’s just beautiful. It’s a celebration of life, I suppose. I think we could all do with a bit of that.”

Currently The Life of Chuck has not had a release date announced.
