Kaitlyn Dever impressed viewers and critics alike in 2019 for her roles in the Golden Globe-nominated Netflix miniseries Unbelievable and Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut Booksmart. Now she’s looking to do it again, as Dever is currently in talks for Universal Pictures’ film adaptation of the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen.
It’s expected that Ben Platt will also join the film to reprise his role as lead character Evan Hansen. Dever would play opposite Platt as Zoe, the younger sister of Hansen’s classmate who dies from suicide and eventually his love interest. The Broadway musical version of Dear Evan Hansen received critical and public acclaim and was nominated for nine Tonys, winning five in the end.
Stephen Chbosky (Wonder) is set to direct the film with Steve Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, writing its script. Greatest Showman lyricists Benj Pasck and Justin Paul, who also wrote the Broadway show’s music, will executive produce, with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel signing on as producers.
Dever is represented by UTA and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson LLP. Given her star talent, fans are sure to be curious and excited about these new developments for adaptation and what it means for longtime Broadway fans of Dear Evan Hansen.
