The director who revitalized the Fast and the Furious franchise into what has become today looks to be making his return to the films with the upcoming 9th and 10th installments. Justin Lin, who began his work on the Fast and Furious franchise with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is discussing with Vin Diesel to rejoin the team as director, according to Empire. Lin is responsible for bringing the franchise into its current film structure, with more ridiculous stunts and intense driving sequences that the two newest directors had followed very well.
The Fast and the Furious is one of the longest current running franchises in film history, with 8 films released over 16 years and at least 3 new films, including a spin-off project featuring Dwayne the “Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, in the works. We are unsure on whether or not Lin will be working on said spinoff, but he looks to be at least working on the 9th and 10th films, which are set to release in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Justin Lin brought the franchise to its current status, and we are wondering if he will able to bring us a refreshing take on the franchise, after two fun but pretty simple films in the 7th and 8th of the series.
