The video game Just Cause from Square Enix is gaining more traction on its way to being turned into a feature film franchise. Director Brad Peyton (Frontier) has signed on, and is teaming up again with Jason Momoa (Aquaman), who has agreed to star in the film. The screenplay for Just Cause has already been written by John Collee (Happy Feet), so it sounds like the project is go. Deadline dropped the news.
The film will follow the same premise as it stands in the video game. Momoa will play Rico Rodriguez, an operative for a covert organization called The Agency. While the exact plot still remains a secret, it’s been speculated that it will deal with Rico’s inability to reconcile his conscience with what he’s ordered to do while on a mission.
If both Aquaman and Just Cause wind up becoming hit franchises, Momoa is going to have quite a heavy workload ahead of him in the upcoming years. It makes you wonder if he foresees one of these projects failing at the box-office. With the success of video game based films like The Edge of Tomorrow who’s to say which film has the upper hand.
