According to Variety, IFC has acquired North American rights to Walking Out, drama co-directed by brothers Alex Smith and Andrew J. Smith (Winter in the Blood). Matt Bomer (The Magnificent Seven) and Josh Wiggins (Mean Dreams) star as a father and son on their annual hunting trip in Montana when harsh and extreme circumstances in the wilderness forge a transformative connection between them. The directors, who are from Montana, said that the film is an “intimate epic” exploring big ideas and emotions relating to ““the unspoken, fragile bond” between two generations.
Also in the cast are Bill Pullman (Independence Day: Resurgence) who plays the grandfather, along with Alex Neustaedter (Ithaca) and Lily Gladstone (Certain Women). Producers are Brunson Green and Laura Ivey along with the Smiths and Allison Whitmer. Executive producers are Jim Burba, Bob Hayes, Katherine Ann McGregor, Carole Meiselman, Marc Simon, Charlsey Adkins, Rodrigo Garcia, Julie Lynn and Bonnie Curtis.
The Smiths said IFC was the perfect company for their film and that they were “over the moon” to be working with IFC on the theatrical release. They praised IFC’s record of being behind “cutting edge yet classic and internationally revered” films and were honored to be in their company.
Walking Out premiered in the U.S. dramatic competition earlier this year at Sundance. The title will screen at SXSW and get its general release later this year.
