‘Jurassic Park 4’ Pushed back to 2015

A month after the film was put on hold, Universal Pictures has confirmed that Jurassic Park 4 will hit theaters in 2015 pushing its release back from the original June 13, 2014 date.

The official Universal banner, pictured above, was snapped by ComingSoon.net at the Licensing Expo 2013 in Las Vegas.  ComingSoon reports the Expo book states that the sequel will be shot in 3D.

The poster from Universal will help quell some of rumors flying around that the movie was done for good.  In May, news circulated that most of the pre-production staff had been laid-off, with the studio claiming they wanted “adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.”  Already on an extremely tight schedule, Universal was quick to restructure the production team keeping all the above-the-line talent onboard.

The studio claims that it did not go head-to-head with the production staff over issues the script.  This may or may not be true because Steven Spielberg, who is executive producing the film, is currently working on the script with director Colin Trevorrow before he begins pre-production on his next film, American Sniper.

In March in was announced that Trevorrow, director of 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed, was helming the project.  Now in charge of the franchise, Trevorrow attached himself to a script penned by Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.  Little information has been leaked about the plot other than the setting will return to the original Jurassic Park island, the fictional Isla Nublar.

2015 is shaping up to be a year of franchise installments.  JP4 will be joining the likes Star Wars: Episode VII, The Avengers 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean 5.  If the worldwide $57 million box office intake of the Jurassic Park 3D rerelease is any indication of the franchise’s strength, Universal should have no trepidation expanding this ambitious project’s production time.
