A new collaboration between producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joseph Kosinski is taking flight, this time to the stars, with a pricey bidding war, per The Hollywood Reporter. Described as All The President’s Men, Alan J. Pakula’s 1976 political thriller starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, with UFOs, the currently untitled film is being written by Zach Baylin, who previously penned King Richard and Creed III. David Grusch, a former United States Air Force officer who gained attention in 2023 for becoming a whistleblower against the Pentagon for their study of unidentified flying aircraft, will be executive-producing and serving as a consultant.
Interest in the project seems to have skyrocketed as at least nine studios and production companies such as Amazon, Skydance, Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros, Paramount, 20th Century Studios, Apple, and Universal have made bids, which are said to be escalating quickly and aggressively.
The pairing of Bruckheimer and Kosinski has already proven to be an immensely profitable one, with the duo’s Top Gun: Maverick grossing $1.4 billion worldwide, with their next movie, F1, the Formula 1 auto-racing drama starring Brad Pitt, set to premiere this summer. Kosinski is also well known for his earlier sci-fi projects such as Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, which also starred Tom Cruise.
Update: As of this writing, Apple has officially won the bidding war, with the producer and director already having had a positive working relationship with the studio on F1, which industry insiders are highly anticipating.
