After seven years, a new Star Wars adventure, The Mandalorian & Grogu, is hitting the big screen just next week. Coming hot off the heels of the film’s premiere, several details have been revealed for it, including just how one specific actor came to star in it.
The Mandalorian & Grogu promises to bring the intergalactic bounty hunter Din Djarin, and his young companion Grogu, to the harsh and dangerous criminal underworld. Their travels will cross their paths with Rotta the Hutt, the son of notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt. While he’s not been seen since the theatrical outing for Star Wars: The Clone Wars way back in 2008, fans were taken by surprise to learn that he’s not only going to appear in Mando & Grogu, but he’s also going to be voiced by Jeremy Allen White.
Known for his television roles in Shameless and The Bear, White’s first journey into the realm of Star Wars was one that was very carefully curated by director of Mando & Grogu, Jon Favreau. Favreau had nothing but the best to say about White, openly praising his past work and the type of energy he can bring to his grounded performances. It was that energy that Favreau specifically wanted for a character like Rotta.
“And the idea that we could ground this character with the performance with an actor like that I thought was a really interesting opportunity,” he told Hollywood Reporter.
The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters this Friday.
