Johnny Depp is back in the movies with the upcoming film, Day Drinker. The new Lionsgate movie will be a thriller and will co-star Penelope Cruz. Director Marc Webb is currently shooting the picture in Spain. This new movie marks a potential comeback to the silver screen for Johnny Depp following the notorious Amber Heard divorce trial. Following being fired from the Fantastic Beasts saga and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp has recently only appeared in a few European-backed commercial plays.

Day Drinker will mark yet another collaboration between Depp and Cruz, as they both co-starred in Blow and the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The film is being produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee who are part of Thunder Road’s productions. The screenplay was written by Adam Kolbrenner and Zach Dean. 30West will be executive producing Day Drinker.

The plot for Day Drinker is about a young female, played by Madelyn Cline, who is a private yacht bartender who encounters a mysterious guest who is played by Depp. The plot thickens as there is an entanglement with a criminal figure played by Penelope Cruz and the three find out that they are connected in twisty ways.

Day Drinker is also the second project between the studios Lionsgate and 30West who recently teamed up for the musical film, Power Ballad.
