It is undeniable how big of an impact one small action film with Keanu Reeves has made on the film industry. The John Wick franchise has become one of the most popular R-rated action series with the original trilogy earning over $579 million worldwide. We’ve known that a fourth film was in the works continuing the story from Chapter 3, and now Lionsgate has even more news about Wick’s future. Today we learned that John Wick 5 is also in the works and will be shot back to back with the fourth film.
The announcement was made by Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer, who broke the news during an analyst call. He stated that scripts are currently being written for both sequels, and that preproduction is on track for a Memorial Day 2022 release. John Wick 4 was initially scheduled for 2021, but was delayed by a whole year.
It is still up in the air when exactly the films will be shot, as COVID-19 has put a hold on many film productions including another sequel with Reeves, The Matrix 4. However once production starts for these movies, fans of John Wick and over-the-top action flicks will have a lot of new material to anticipate.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set for release May 22, 2022.
