The superhero film industry is currently booming! We’ve seen innovative and record-breaking filming for Marvel, ranging from the unstoppable Black Panther to the already-successful Avengers: Infinity War. We’ve also gotten a taste of what’s to come with DC, such as Ava DuVernay’s The New Gods and Cathy Yan’s upcoming Harley Quinn standalone. The next notable upcoming superhero film has recently been announced. Produced by horror innovator company Blumhouse, the film will be based on The American Way. Even better, John Ridley himself will be helming the movie, producing it, penning a script, and operating from the director’s chair, Deadline reports. Ridley’s going to be riding the superhero wave for a while too, as a short while ago, news broke that he would work on a TV show for the MCU. He’s known for his work on Guerrilla, American Crime, and the hugely celebrated awards darling 12 Years a Slave, and it looks like Ridley will be adding another amazing project to his legacy.
Though the series took place all the way back in the sixties, Ridley looks to focus the movie a decade later in 1972. His inspiration comes from “reading of LBJ’s desire to add a black astronaut.” Ridley himself wrote these comics, so it will be interesting to see how he adapts his work. It also must leave fans relieved, knowing that he will be able to do the source material justice.
