‘John Rambo’ Prequel Film Adds David Harbour In Key Role

The upcoming prequel focusing on the iconic John Rambo has just cast a critical player. David Harbour has just been brought on board for the aptly titled film John Rambo, playing the role of Major Trautman.

The character of John Rambo originally appeared on film in First Blood, released in 1982. In the wake of the Vietnam war, John Rambo, a former Green Beret in the US Army, is arrested in a small town. But when his treatment in the station triggers his PTSD, he flees into the woods thinking he’s still in the army, triggering a full blown manhunt to bring him in before he harms anyone, or himself.

As stated, Harbour will be playing Major Trautman, a very important character to Rambo’s past. In their exclusive reporting, Hollywood Reporter noted that the character had appeared in First Blood as well, with Richard Crenna playing him alongside Sylvester Stallone’s iconic portrayal of John Rambo.

John Rambo is set to chronicle the days of Rambo when he was in the US military, and his trials and tribulations during the Vietnam war. Noah Centineo, who appeared in Black Adam and Warfare, is slated to take the reins from Sylvester Stallone for the titular soldier.

Harbour, most well known for his work as Chief Hopper in Netflix’s Stranger Things, will be returning to theaters at the end of this year, when Avengers: Doomsday hits the big screen. He’ll be reprising his role as Alexi Shostakov, otherwise known as the Red Guardian. This’ll be his third time playing the character, after Black Widow in 2021 and Thunderbolts* in 2024.
