It appears as though the second installment of World War Z has finally had its fate decided after years of delay. Jim Gianopulos, Paramount Picture’s new chairman and CEO, reportedly has plans to resurrect the film with David Fincher at the helm as director. Although the film hasn’t been officially green lit Variety reports that it should receive the go-ahead in upcoming weeks.
Both Gianopulos and Brad Pitt, the film’s protagonist, have worked with Fincher in the past; Pitt more so than Gianopulos. While Pitt hasn’t collaborated with the director since 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, it’s said that he’s been attempting to lock Fincher down on the sequel since last summer. However, Fincher has expressed an aversion towards sequels after having directed the underwhelming Alien 3. Gianopulos is linked with the man insomuch as he green lit his most recent film, Gone Girl, while chairman at 20th Century Fox.
It’s been about five years since the first film was released and it looks like audiences will have to wait another one or two until the sequel hits theaters. If and when production begins it wouldn’t be until the first quarter of 2018.
Fan’s, just keep your fingers crossed in hopes that we’ll receive some closure on this epic Zombie story.
