Jeremy London Will Return as Lead for ‘Mallrats 2’

Just a few weeks after announcing the sequel to Mallrats, director Kevin Smith has cast Jeremy London (TV’s 7th Heaven)—the cult classic’s original protagonist—as his lead, T.S. Quint. To be clear, Smith acted more along the lines of convincing London back into the role, as his tweet this Friday morning confirms his intent to get the entire original cast back. Is middle-aged loitering at the mall a real thing? Smith seems to think so.

Smith also confirmed last week via Twitter that actor Jason Mewes (Jay, of the recurring Smith duo Jay & Silent Bob) will also be returning for the sequel, along with Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Marvel Comics tycoon Stan Lee, who had a brief cameo in the first film. Other familiar faces back for round two are Shannon Doherty (TV’s Beverly Hills 90210), Ethan Suplee (The Wolf of Wall Street), and Jason Lee (Chasing Amy) as Quint’s best friend Brodie Bruce. Smith’s rounded out original cast would need to include the ever-busy Ben Affleck (Gone Girl), as well as Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black), Joey Lauren Adams (Big Daddy), and Renee Humphrey (French Kiss).

Since Mallrats, London has had a relatively steady television career in the 1990s and early 2000s. Recently, he has enjoyed abundant work in various B movies. This will be his first foray back into the spotlight in quite a while, which is also true of much of the remaining cast.
