The creators and showrunners of the TV series Condor, Jason Smilovic, and Todd Katzberg, will adapt Isabella Maldonado’s best-selling novel The Cipher, which Jennifer Lopez will star in and produce the Netflix film. FBI agent Nina Guerrera (Lopez), who at the age of sixteen escapes from a serial killer’s clutches. Years later, she is jumped in a Virginia park, a video of the attack goes viral. Swarms of new followers are not the only ones who are fascinated with her fighting skills. The guy who kidnapped her 11 years ago is also watching her.
Determined to retrieve his lost prize, he commits a gruesome murder to draw her into the investigation. Partnered with FBI’s leading mind hunter, Dr. Jeffrey Wade, who has his own troubled past, and together they track the predator across the country searching deep and wide, every nook and cranny as she races to stop the serial killer. Simultaneously, the world watches it happen as the killer intended while he strategically posts complicated codes and puzzles online as it turns into a cat-and-mouse chase.
Smilovic previously wrote films such as Lucky Number Slevin that starred Josh Hartnett, Ben Kingsley, and Morgan Freeman, and Todd Phillips’ War Dogs that stars Miles Teller and Jonah Hill.
