Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Marry Me’ Delayed Nearly A Year

Universal Pictures has announced that the upcoming Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson film Marry Me has been delayed almost a full year. The film was originally slated to be released May 14th, 2021, but it has been pushed to February 11th, 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Directed by Kat Coiro (She-Hulk series), Marry Me tells the story of pop star named Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez), who is getting ready to marry her fiancé, Bastian (Maluma). She discovers right before the ceremony that her fiancé has been cheating on her, so out of anger she picks a stranger out of the audience (Owen Wilson) and marries him instead. This will be the first film in over 20 years that Lopez and Wilson have starred in together. The last film they were in together was 1997’s Anaconda. It makes sense that the film is now going to be released near Valentine’s Day since it is a romantic comedy, but it is unfortunate that it has to be in a year from now.

According to Cinema Blend, interestingly enough, another wedding movie is set to be released around the same time, Jason Moore’s Shotgun Wedding, which is currently in the late stages of pre-production, having recently recast Armie Hammer with Josh Duhamel. Alongside Lopez and Wilson, Marry Me also stars John Bradley, Michelle Buteau and Utkarsh Ambudkar star.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
