Cathy Yan’s ‘Dead Pigs’ Is Getting an American Release

Dead Pigs is a Chinese comedy and drama movie that came out in its home country in 2018. The movie debuted at 2018 Sundance Film Festival, and it received lot of critical success when it debuted. Unfortunately the movie was not released in North America. However Dark Horizons has just reported that on February 12, 2021 Dead Pigs will finally get released in the United States of America on streaming site Mubi. Dead Pigs was written and directed by Cathy Yan, and it was also Yan’s directorial debut movie. Cathy Yan is probably best known for directing the 2020 Birds of Prey movie. The plot of Dead Pigs, which is based on a true story, is about pig farmer who is down on his luck crossing paths with a busboy who is head over heels in love, a salon owner with a feisty streak, a rich girl who is disenchanted with life, and architect from America. The lives and stories of this group of unlikely characters converge when thousands of dead pigs are seen floating down China’s the Huangpu River. The pigs are unfortunately being carried in the direction of populous city of Shanghai. The movie stars the Chinese actors Vivian Wu, Mason Lee, Zazie Beetz, Meng Li, Haoyu Yang and David Rysdahl.
