Jennifer Lopez Set to Star and Produce ‘The Cipher’ for Netflix

Jennifer Lopez is partnering with Netflix to produce and star in the film adaptation of the best-selling novel The Cipher by Isabella Maldonado. Lopez will play FBI agent Nina Guerrera, who at the age of sixteen escapes from a serial killer’s clutches. Years later, she is jumped in a Virginia park, a video of the attack goes viral. Swarms of new followers are not the only ones who are fascinated with her fighting skills. The guy who kidnapped her 11 years ago is also watching her.

Determined to retrieve his lost prize, he commits a gruesome murder to draw her into the investigation. Partnered with FBI’s leading mind hunter, Dr. Jeffrey Wade, who has his own troubled past, and together they track the predator across the country searching deep and wide, every nook and cranny as she races to stop the serial killer. Simultaneously, the world watches it happen as the killer intended while he strategically posts complicated codes and puzzles online as it turns into a cat-and-mouse chase.

Netflix wanted The Cipher for Lopez and producing partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina. Liza Fleissig, Ginger Harris-Dontzin, Catherine Hagedorn, and Maldonado will be executive producers on the film. Courtney Baxter will act as associate producer.
