Jennifer Lopez and Netflix are reteaming for the upcoming Netflix film The Mother, an action feature about a deadly assassin that Lopez will star in and produce. The director of the Disney remake Mulan, Niki Caro, in talks to be the director.
Misha Green (Lovecraft Country) is writing the script, with revisions by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton).
The film centers on a deadly female assassin (Lopez) who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years ago while on the run from dangerous men.
Lopez and Netflix are also working together on a previously announced film in December. Lopez will star in and produce Isabella Maldonado’s bestselling novel The Cipher, about an FBI agent Nina Guerrera on a mission to capture a dangerous serial killer, who she has met before as a teenager.
It isn’t just those two movies that Lopez is working on; there are numerous movies that she has signed on to star in and produce.
She is working on films like Universal’s musical-driven romantic comedy Marry Me with Owen Wilson and crime drama from STX The Godmother. Lopez is in the midst of filming Lionsgate’s Shotgun Wedding that was supposed to star Armie Hammer but departed from the film, and now Josh Duhamel (The Lost Husband) might be his replacement for the lead role.
