Jenna Ortega And Rose Byrne Set To Star In Mary Bronstein’s ‘Nasty’

Rose Byrne in A24's 'If I had Legs I'd Kick You' (2025)

With filming set for this fall, Warner Bros. Clockwork is preparing for production on the upcoming film Nasty.  Mary Bronstein previously worked with Rose Byrne on 2025’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a film that earned Byrne an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. The screenplay first appeared on the Black List in 2024, a list that surveys the hottest unproduced scripts in Hollywood.  Isabella Jarosz penned the script, earning her first script sale.  The film is set to follow a gymnastics phenom competing for a spot on the Olympic team with only one obstacle facing her, her coach.

It is fair to assume that Nasty will deal with personal struggles and anxiety-inducing scenarios, something all too familiar for the duo of Bronstein and Byrne.  In If I Had Legs I Kick You, Byrne plays a mother nearing her breaking point, and with the camera almost exclusively focused on her, Byrne is given a runway to deliver her most emotional performance to date.  Said performance earned her Academy Award, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice nominations for Best Actress.  She also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Performance.

Deadline also pointed out some of Ortega’s past work, along with the agents of the talent attached to Nasty.

Ortega is a Best Actress Emmy comedy nominee, a 2x Golden Globe nominee and 2x Actors Awards nominee for her turn as the titular character in Netflix’s Wednesday…  Bronstein is repped by CAA, attorney David Krintzman. Jarosz is repped by CAA, Untitled, and Ziffren. Ortega is repped by CAA and Jeff Hynick at Jackoway Austen. Byrne is repped by CAA and RGM Artists. LuckyChap is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Attorney Jeff Bernstein.
