The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has expanded its Special Presentations program for its 51st edition, securing world premieres for highly anticipated features starring Margaret Qualley, Naomi Watts, and Mahershala Ali. The upcoming slate highlights an array of narrative features spanning romantic drama, historical investigative thrillers, and international genre films. Among the key selections is Love of Your Life, an Amazon MGM Studios romantic drama directed by Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison. The film, written by Julia Cox and produced by Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson, marks Morrison’s sophomore directorial effort. Starring Margaret Qualley, Gabriel Basso, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aaron Pierre, and Catherine Keener, the narrative follows a young woman navigating personal upheaval following a sudden life transition.
Director Ben Shirinian makes his feature-length directorial debut with The Housewife, a psychological drama inspired by true events from 1964. The narrative follows a young New York Times journalist tracking an alleged former Nazi officer hiding in Queens. His investigation becomes complicated when he develops an unsettling friendship with the suspect’s charismatic wife, portrayed by Naomi Watts. The project, written by Alyssa Hill and sold internationally by Neon, co-stars Tye Sheridan, Michael Imperioli, and Luke Evans.
Additionally, the festival will host the world premiere of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a high-stakes thriller from Amazon MGM’s Orion Pictures. Written and directed by Bassam Tariq, the film stars two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as a devoutly religious hitman dealing with the immediate aftermath of his wife’s passing. The ensemble cast includes John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, Abubakr Ali, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Laith Nakli, with the theatrical release scheduled for September 25, 2026. International highlights in the program include the world premiere of the Argentine drama Glaxo, directed by Benjamín Naishtat and adapted from Hernán Ronsino’s novel. TIFF has also secured the international premiere of the Zellner brothers’ alien-invasion comedy Alpha Gang, starring Cate Blanchett, Chris Pine, Dave Bautista, Léa Seydoux, Lily-Rose Depp, Adria Arjona, and Doona Bae.
The new selections join previously announced high-profile festival titles, including Susanna White’s Prima Facie, Hur Jin-ho’s The Assassin(s), and the opening night film Being Heumann from director Siân Heder. The 2026 Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 10 to September 20.
