The full cast list for Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad has been revealed, with Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Will Smith (Focus), Tom Hardy (The Drop), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Jai Courtney (The Water Diviner), and Cara Delevingne (The Face of an Angel) compiling the team of DC super villains. This announcement ends months of rumors and speculation surrounding the film, which will begin shooting next April in Toronto.
Most of the actors announced – including Leto, Smith, Hardy, and Robbie – had already been rumored to be circling roles in the DC adaptation, but with nothing being official. Suicide Squad is based off the DC comic which revolves around a band of super villains that carry out missions for the United States government in exchange for commuted sentences.
The team of antiheroes is composed as follows: Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Jesse Eisenberg is also in talks to play Lex Luther in the film, but he’ll first make his Luther debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
There is still the crucial role of Amanda Waller, comparable to Nick Fury for Marvel’s Avengers, that has yet to be cast. Warner Bros. is reportedly eyeing Viola Davis (The Help), Octavia Spencer (Snowpiercer), and Oprah Winfrey (Lee Daniels’ The Butler) for that role, with Winfrey being the favorite for the studio.
Suicide Squad will be directed by David Ayer (Fury) and has a release date of August 5, 2016.
