DC Studios’ creative force and co-CEO, James Gunn, is already gearing up for the first major film in the new DC Universe, with the release of Superman on July 2025. Now, Gunn has confirmed that another major DC character’s story has wrapped filming, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow heading into post-production. The film, which was directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, will take inspiration from the Tom King comic series of the same name.
DC fan and Threads user @pop_culture_nerd took to the platform to ask Gunn: “James, I wanna hear from you with this news just to confirm; has Supergirl really wrapped filming?” To which the DC showrunner replied “Yes it has.”
Supergirl will see Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as the titular character Kara Zor-El alongside co-stars Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. Alcock’s character is rumored to debut in Superman, alongside David Corenswet’s Clark Kent. Supergirl is currently slated for a June 2026 release. With the film just entering post-production and more than a year out from release, it may be a while before any promotional material is seen, but fans can keep their fingers crossed for a first official look at the film at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
