Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the more highly anticipated announced films taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it looks like the hype surrounding the project is getting a little bit bigger. The Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently replied to a fan’s tweet and confirmed that he’s been helping Waititi with the upcoming film.
“Out of curiosity, are you consulting on GOTG characters in Thor: Love and Thunder?,” asked Twitter user @Mary007Mighty. “Yes. Have been doing. They’re in great hands with @TaikaWaititi,” Gunn replied, tagging his fellow returning MCU director.
The film will feature appearances characters that were ushered into the MCU by Gunn in his first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, so it makes sense that he’d want to keep a close eye on how they’re treated when not under his own direction. Gunn is currently working on The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will likely release in 2023, as well as The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which should release December 2022.
Chris Hemsworth will return as the god of thunder alongside Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif and Christian Bale as the supervillain Gorr the God Butcher.
“I think it’s going to be really good,” Waititi said in an interview with BBC last year. “We’ve finished, we’ve been writing the script off and on for over a year… It is so insane and also very romantic. I’m into romances now. I just want to make a romance. I want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”
Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to release February 11, 2022.
