Earlier today James Earl Jones the beloved voice of Darth Vader of the Star Wars Films passed away in his home in Dutchess country New York. Jone’s representatives from Independent Artist confirmed his passing with Deadline who made the public announcement earlier today. Jones was 93.
Jones was a prominent figure of Broadway and made many more appearances as actor and a voice actor but none were as iconic as his tenure as the voice of Sith Lord Darth Vader. Over Jones’s 60 year long career he brought a diverse array of characters to life all with as much passion as he poured into Vader.
Under Jones’s belt were the other phenomenal films such as Conan the Barbarian (1982), Coming to America (1988), The Hunt for Red October and even as Mufasa in Disney’s original Lion King(1994) and an early break out appearance in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove in 1964. The role that put him on the map was The Great White Hope in 1970 as his first leading role.
Jones’s was the recipient of numerous earned awards and accolades over his decades long career, from Emmys, Tonys and an honorary Oscar for his achievement in film including a Lifetime Achievement Award presented to him by SAG-AFTRA.
We at mxdwn extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to Jones’s family and friends. A legend has passed and Jones will always be remembered for the joy he brought the world with his passion and love for the craft of acting.
