Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-Ho’s next film- Okja– is close to adding four new actors to its cast according to The Wrap. Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw), Paul Dano (Love & Mercy), Kelly MacDonald (Anna Karenina), and Bill Nighy (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) are all rumored to join the international monster movie. The cast will join Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) who is the only actor confirmed for the project.
The film’s plot is underwraps but the film has a number of English-and Korean-language actors leading us to believe the film will revolve around international relations during a monster invasion. Bong’s previous film The Host also involved international government relations when a pollution-created monster attacks.
Gyllenhaal is a big get for the project as the actor is coming off critical acclaim for Nightcrawler as well as Prisoners and Southpaw. He also headlines TIFF opener Demolition (due in theaters next spring), will soon start shooting Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals and will later shoot the Boston Marathon bombing film Stronger.
Dano recently starred in the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy and recently finished shooting the wilderness drama Swiss Army Man. Most recently, MacDonald finished work on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire and is currently filming the family novel adaptation Swallows and Amazons. Nighy’s next film will be the British World War II comedy Their Finest Hour and a Half.
Okja is set to release in South Korea next year. No American release date has been set.
