Jake Gyllenhaal Hints at Rumored Villain Role for ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

With the new Spider-Man film on the horizon, fans eagerly await for who will be the next foe to go against the famous web-slinger. The villain chosen to be Spider Man’s adversary for Spider-Man: Far From Home is Mysterio, a failed Hollywood actor that uses his skills with special effects to commit various crimes throughout New York City. Jake Gyllenhaal has been attached to the project for several months, but was only rumored to be playing Mysterio.

Gyllenhaal posted a short video on his Instagram page regarding Spider-Man to tease his involvement. In the video, the actor holds a comic of The Amazing Spider-Man –  this particular issue happens to be titled Return of the Man Called Mysterio. Gyllenhaal puts the comic down with a shocking expression on his face and him saying, “Woah, what the…” His also put a caption in the video stating “I just realized, I’m not playing Spider-Man.” Even though the actor and Sony has yet to confirm anything for certain, this video is now all but a confirmation of Gyllenhaal’s role.

The true answer for this will probably be known soon enough as Spider-Man: Far From Home is scheduled to have a trailer be released Saturday December 8, at Brazil Comic Con with the film being scheduled to release July 9, 2019. The film will also have Tom Holland returning as the title character, alongside Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya all returning to their roles from the previous film. Also new to the film is Samuel L. Jackson, making an appearance as Nick Fury. Returning behind the camera is Jon Watts to direct the film, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returning as writers for the sequel as well.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
