Jaimie Alexander, according to Deadline insiders, is set to return to the MCU as Lady Sif in Thor: Love and Thunder. Just like Natalie Portman’s return, this will be Alexander’s first MCU film appearance since The Dark World. Though Alexander did appear in the series Agents of Shield in two episodes in 2014 and 2015.
After the dispatch of the Warriors Three at the beginning of the third Thor installment, it was a question if Sif would actually return to the MCU. However, similar to the return of recently announced Tim Roth, William Hurt a few years ago, and now Alexander, it is clear Marvel has plans for just about every side character from their previous films.
Though Marvel has not made it official, the outlets reporting this news are reputable and have been correct on past Marvel news stories. In the Investor Day that will live in infamy, Disney announced a slew of Pixar, Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel projects all in the span of roughly five hours. The news kept pouring, and it is not surprising that there were a few announcements that had to wait for another date. Kevin Fiege, the head of Marvel Studios, also did not mention the slew of Spider-man 3 castings in the past few weeks.
Alexander just wrapped a five year stint on her successful leading role in the TV show Blindspot, which aired its last episode this past July. It is refreshing to see her return to the Thor Universe, and just like Portman it ties the first two films into the greater MCU.
On that note, Alexander is also rumored to be appearing in the Disney+ series Loki, which would most likely be a Sif from a different timeline, while the normal version will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. This would not be a huge surprise as Loki mentions Hemindall and his brother by name in the trailer.
Kat Dennings, who appeared in the first two Thor films, is also returning to the MCU in WandaVision. Marvel is a lot more willing to share the MCU film cast with the Disney+ TV series branch, more so than they were with ABC’s Agents of Shield and the Netflix Defender heroes series. This is another exciting return for the MCU that just wrapped chapter one with Endgame last year.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to start filming in January 2021, and is set for a May 6, 2022 release date.
