Jacob Tremblay, star of the 2015 Oscar-nominated drama Room, is the newest recognizable name to join the star-studded cast of Xavier Dolan‘s first ever English-language film, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report that Tremblay has signed onto this project, and as any young actors dream job, he will be working alongside current industry icons like Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates, as well as shooting in locations like Montreal, Prague, the U.K. and New York. He will also work alongside seasoned producers like Dolan himself, his frequent collaborator Nancy Grant, and Lyse Lafontaine of Lyla Films, with Joe Icacono as the executive producer.
The film is set in two separate decades, one in the early 2000s where adult American TV star Donovan’s (Harrington) life is thrown into disarray when his correspondence with a young up and coming actor (Tremblay) is revealed to the world, leading to all kinds of accusations and assumptions. The other portion of the film takes place in the future, when the young actor has grown up and found success, and centers around an interview in which he recollects his memories of Donovan and their relationship.
The Canadian film will be distributed at Berlin’s EFM by Seville International, and Les Films Seville will distribute directly in Canada. In the U.S. however, CAA will be distributing the film, and in France Mars Films has the rights.
Tremblay will next star in Wonder alongside Julia Roberts and in The Book of Henry, directed by Colin Trevorrow.
