Jacob Scipio, who had his breakout role in Bad Boys for Life, is officially set to star in Warner Bros and DC Films’ Batgirl. Scipio joins Leslie Grace, who will play Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, and J.K. Simmons, who will reprise his role as Commissioner James Gordon.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are the directors behind Scipio’s performance in the Bad Boys For Life film and the directors for Batgirl. It was just announced that Arbi and Fallah are set to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4, with Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley.
The film will premiere exclusively on HBO Max, making it one of the first big live-action DC properties to do so. Kristin Burr (Cruella) produced the film, which was written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey).
While story specifics are still being kept under lock and key, it is known that Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, will be the figure behind the cape in this rendition. Barbara Gordon is the most well-known incarnation of the Batgirl character, having initially appeared in 1961 comic as Bette Kane, who assumed the role of Flamebird.
The identity of what character Scipio will play in Batgirl is unknown.
Batgirl is expected to hit the streaming service in 2022.
