Jackie Chan’s Return To The ‘Karate Kid’ Franchise

Jackie Chan is returning to the Karate Kid universe. Sony Pictures announced the news about the new Karate Kid movie set for release on June 7, 2024. The Karate Kid franchise has been highly praised for its many sequels, 1986’s Karate Kid Part II, 1989’s Karate Kid Part III, 1994’s The Next Karate Kid, 2010s The Karate Kid, and the TV series Cobra Kai, which has been renewed for a sixth season on Netflix. Sony Pictures wanted to bring back the original Karate Kid in the upcoming project which will bring back Jackie Chan in his role as Mr. Han. Information about Jaden Smith returning to the new project is currently unknown.

With not much being shared about the new project, we do get some insight through Comicbook movies as they discuss with Ralph Macchio who plays Daniel LaRusso in Karate Kid and Cobra Kai. “There’s kind of this Karate Kid Cinematic Universe now where Cobra Kai is at the center of that and when the show ends there are other areas to draw from.”

This leaves a lot in the air for Jackie Chan’s role as Mr. Han in the new Karate Kid movie and how the director of the project, Jonathan Entwistle, who’s behind The End of the F***ing World, will take on implementing Mr. Han in the new film. Will this new project be a stand-alone, like the 2010 Karate Kid? Or further develop Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi’s background story?

There hasn’t been any news on the rest of the cast or any other developments, as they have remained under wraps.
