After its second weekend on the big screen, Jackass Forever wins the fight between its own 22-year old reality brand and the disaster tragedy Moonfall in the box office, as reported by Deadline.
Coming in with $23.5 million, Jackass Forever, beats out Moonfall, who lost gravity at $10 million. Although the Jackass brand has been hard to beat over the last 22 years, it’s never been seen as much as the disaster movie genre in the box office, contributing to its weekend win in the box office.
Thanks to Tiktok, Jackass Forever became a trending topic, bringing in business that was 67% 18-25-year-olds and only 25% of business coming in from the over 35 crowd. This really only means that the Jackass brand got younger, a winning hand for any studio loving a franchise. Jackass received a 4.5/5 on Comscore/Screen Engines’s PostTrak, making it a crowd please at the box office.
On Tiktok, Jackass has reached an audience of upwards of 150 million people, including its live coverage of the premier tracking it 7+ million alone. Including videos being posted by influencers and the cast of Jackass themselves.
With Jackass’ success, it leaves Moonfall to fall short. The movie itself was expensive to make and Lionsgate was on the hook for the film pre-pandemic, when theatres were seeing much larger numbers in ticket sales. Fans said that they knew Jackass would overshadow the film before they were released.
In light of the release of the two films, it leaves Spider-Man: No Way Home to fall into the third-place spot in its eighth weekend, pulling in $8.8 million, giving it a total of $748.1 million, now only $12.4 million away from becoming the third highest-grossing movie of all time in the U.S.
