J.K. Rowling Claims Her Statements On Transgender Women Have Been ‘Profoundly’ Misunderstood

J.K. Rowling, known for writing the Harry Potter books, whose comments about transgender people have been widely criticized for being transphobic over the years, said that her views, including some of the Potter series’ biggest stars, were “profoundly” misunderstood.

Deadline writes about the trailer for the new podcast The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling, where Rowling says, “I never set out to upset anyone. However, I was not uncomfortable with getting off my pedestal.”

Rowling says that when people on social media say, “You’ve ruined your legacy. Oh, you could have been beloved forever, but you chose to say this,” she thinks: “You could not have misunderstood me more profoundly.”

The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling will premiere by Free Press on February 21. A media outlet and provocateur founded by Barry Weiss, who views what she sees as an awakening culture and liberal censorship. The new podcast is hosted by Megan Phelps-Roper, who grew up as a member of the infamous Phelps family of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Deadline writes what Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe said in 2020, “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional healthcare associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either [Rowling] or I. It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.”

The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling Podcast premieres on Tuesday, February 21st, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other audio platforms.
