Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) very own Yoda in the opening shots of The Last Jedi teaser. The series new heroine looks to be on her way towards the Force while on the island where we left her and Luke at the end of The Force Awakens. Here is the kicker, though, the end of the teaser features Luke saying the dooming words “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”
Where Rey fits into all of this, — the end of the Jedi Order, or as its last remaining hope — is yet to be clearly seen. Here is what the teaser does reveal: Finn (John Boyega) looks like he is still on the mend and in his coma — inflicted in The Force Awakens after his battle with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver); Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is still on the move as a Resistance pilot; the Millennium Falcon is taking to the skies, likely by its new pilot Rey; and the Knights of Ren are making their entrance in a huge way.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper) and also stars the late Carrie Fisher, Laura Dern, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Benicio del Toro, Andy Serkis, the late Warwick Davis, Lupita Nyong’o, and a rumored Tom Hardy. The film hits theaters this Christmas, and this will likely be the first of a soon to follow extensive promotional roll-out.
