A consistent topic of discussion that has plagued the internet for the past few years now was the idea of a mythic “Snyder Cut” of Justice League. Despite many believing it will never happen, Warner Bros has announced that Zack Snyder’s Cut of Justice League will premiere on HBO Max in 2021.
The announcement was made by Snyder himself during a recent Q&A session. The details on how the Snyder Cut will come out has not been fully specified, as it’s rumored the film could be released either as one 4 hour long cut or separated into miniseries-like segments. It is also noted that while Snyder completed a decent amount of the film back in 2016, there’s still work needed to make the film as close to his original vision as possible, which includes bringing back the production teams, effects artists, and even some of the cast.
Warner Media Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt offered his thoughts on the Snyder Cut release in a press statement: “Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures.”
Whether or not the film is good, fans will at least have the golden opportunity to witness what Justice League was meant to be rather than the disappointing theatrical release they received. With Warner Bros planning to make this one of HBO Max’s selling point, they’re definitely going to receive a lot of support from DC fans. Plus, Snyder himself seems very excited to get the film he originally wanted out there, stating, “This return to that pedigree and to let my singular vision of my movie be realized, in this format, in this length, is unprecedented and a brave move”.
