It’s been over two years since the release of Sony Pictures Animation‘s hit animated superhero adventure, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and although we’ve known about sequel in development for quite a while, we’re just starting to get more information about the next film. One new piece of news, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is that comedian and actress Issa Rae will lend her voice to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, which is set to release in theaters October 7, 2022.
Rae will voice Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman in the upcoming movie. She’ll join Shameik Moore, who’s set to reprise his role as Miles Morales from the original film, and Hailee Steinfeld, who’ll be back again as the voice of Gwen Stacey aka Spider-Gwen.
Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg are also set to return as producers, and Lord and Miller will be credited as writers on the film alongside David Callaham. The film is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson.
Rae is currently in the process of filming the fifth and final season of the HBO comedy Insecure. She’ll also executive producing and star in the second season of Robin Thede’s A Black Lady Sketch Show. She’s also set to star in B.J. Novak‘s upcoming thriller film, Vengeance.
