According to Variety, Isabelle Huppert will star in Benit Jaccquot’s Eva. Recently, Huppert won a Gotham Award for her acclaimed role in Paul Verhoevene’s Elle, a performance that also recently received nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards and Critics Choice Awards and a win from the New York Film Critics Circle.
Eva will be a psychological thriller. It is based on the novel of the same name by James Hadley Chase. His novel centers around a dangerous, but alluring woman, to be played by Huppert. Co-starring, will be Gaspard Ulliel. Ulliel is a French actor who can be seen in Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World. Dolan’s film won the Grand Prix at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. There is a previous version of the film which was directed by Joseph Losey in 1962, and Jeanne Moreau took the title role. Production for Eva will begin mid-January in Paris, Lyon, and Annecy.
The role marks the latest in a string of prolific part for the versatile Huppert. Aside from Elle, she will also appear in art-house screens this year in Mia Hansen Love’s Things to Come, an acclaimed festival entry (Huppert’s NYFCC prize was for both this film and Elle). She will also appear in Happy End, a reunion with her Amour director Michael Haneke.
