

Iris Apatow and Edvin Ryding have been added to the cast of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping as production begins on the feature.
The duo will portray Proserpina and Vitus, “two Capitol University students assigned to the prep team for the District 12 Tributes.” Apatow and Ryding round out the star-studded cast, consisting of Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, and Billy Porter. The ensemble also includes rising stars Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, McKenna Grace, Beng Wang, and Molly McCann.
According to Variety, Lionsgate recently also announced the supporting cast to this prequel, that includes, “Laura Marcus as Silka, Percy Daggs IV as Ampert, Rada Rae as Wellie, Jhaleil Swaby as Panache, John Doeble as Buck, Alina Reid as Kerna, Salimou Thiam as Clayton, Kaine Buffonge as Hull, Sky Frances as Maritte, Tatyana Muzondo as Ringina, Kara Tointon as Willamae, Smylie Bradwell as Sid, Melody Chikakane Brown as Hattie Meeny, Grace Ackary as Asterid, Scot Greenan as Burdock, Jeffrey Hallman as Clerk Carmine, Sandra Förster as Hersilia, Serafin Mishiev as Woodbine Chance, Jax Guerrero as Tibby and Jefferson White as Mr. McCoy.”
Francis Lawrence is set to return to direct the film adaptation, with a screenplay by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce under the Color Force banner along with Lawrence, with Cameron MacConomy set to executive produce. Suzanne Collins’ novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, was published on March 18th and centers around “the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.” The book sold over 1.5 million copies globally in its first week and consistently holds top spots on lists like USA Today and Amazon.
Ryding is best known for his performance in Netflix’s Young Royals and his most recent role as Erik Sundqvist in 28 Years Later. Apatow most recently starred in the Netflix series Unstable and will have a recurring role in the third season of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies. Apatow also had a recent role in 2024’s romantic comedy Young Werther and has an upcoming role in the action thriller film Ballerina Overdrive.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to release in theaters globally on November 20, 2026.
